Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse & McGulpin Point

Since John & I had some time on our own, we made the most of it.  We weren't making it a lighthouse vacation, but we did squeeze in a few.  It's hard to be in northern Michigan & not see some.  We stayed our first night in Traverse City & then headed up to Mackinaw City for a couple nights.  I'm not going to include any of these on the map yet, since the kids weren't with us.  In Mackinaw City we stayed at the Deer Head Inn Bed & Breakfast.  It was the perfect location and walking distance to everything.  The first night we were there we happened to get the "Lighthouse Room".  When we decided to stay a second night it was already booked, so we switched to the "Hemingway Room".

Our first day there we walked to two different lighthouses.  The first was McGulpin Point.  It was privately owned until 2008, then purchased my Emmet County.  It is now opened to the public and turned into a museum.

After that, we walked to dinner.  We pretty much stopped at the first place we saw.  It was called Dixie's Saloon and it was packed!

mmm....burger

The second lighthouse we went to was Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse.  We didn't tour this lighthouse, because by the time we were done with dinner it was just about to close.  We didn't have the kids with us anyway.  However, we did finally get our last three passports!
