Road Trip Endeavour-Day 4-St. Simons Island Light Station

location-St. Simons Island, GA
built-1872
active beacon-yes
stamp-yes
players-Jen, John, Lincoln, Spencer and Jackson

We're back in the car and headed to Daytona Beach.  Of course, we have to explore the lighthouses along the way.

Our first stop was about 2 1/2 hours south of Savannah to St. Simon Island.  The current Saint Simons Lighthouse is actually the second lighthouse in this location.  The first lighthouse was built in 1810 and was destroyed in 1862 during the civil war.  The second lighthouse was built in 1872.  It has a 104 foot tower and 129 steps.

This lighthouse was especially fun, because it was the boys first time ever putting their feet  in the ocean.  Well, it was supposed to be just their feet, but Spencer had a boo boo on his leg, so the only logical thing to so was to get his whole leg in the salt water to heal it.
